What's in her name?

A few fun facts about Skylar's name...

Her middle name "Rae" is after her Nana Bonita Rae Thomas.  Bonnie's dad's middle name was also Ray.  Bonnie grew up thinking that her middle name was spelled R-a-e but when she got her birth certificate, it was actually R-a-y.  We stuck with the feminine version that Bonnie uses.  We have also been calling her Sky for short...and Sky Rae.  Upon hearing this, Grandpa Jim told us that one of the planes he flew in the Marine Corps in the late 50's and early 60's was the F4D Skyray! It was an aircraft carrier-based supersonic fighter and interceptor. Here's a pic of the Skyray :) Looks fast!!

F4D Skyray

On 3.25.14, she weighed 6 pounds, 13 oz--up one pound from her birth weight at 13 days old!!  And she grew an inch and is now 20.5 inches long. Growing like a weed!! Her favorite song is Avicii's "Wake Me Up." She even loves my terrible singing voice.

Here are some pictures from the week....

Fun with Grandpa Jim!

And....She's here!!

Skylar Rae was 4 days overdue...but perfectly on time!  All grandparents were on deck and got to see Miss Sky the day she was born on March 12, 2014.

Flashback to Tuesday 3/11/14....I went and worked out at the Y, saw my friends there and they all joked with me about still exercising....I did a kettlebell workout on my own. Later that afternoon, my parents and I went to an early dinner at Rico's.  I had minestrone soup and salad. My mom gave me a taste of her eggplant parm.  Lucas, meanwhile, had a normal day of work, ice hockey at noon (his new thing) and then he went to trivia at the Sawtooth Brewery that night.  While he was at trivia, Noi came to hang with me and then Bonnie showed up too.  As we were chatting, I started to think, "Hmmm, maybe something is happening here." I didn't think much of it until the pain was intense enough that I couldn't concentrate on their stories....Lucas' team won trivia and then he went to the Cellar for a celebratory "last drink before I'm a dad" and a shot of tequila.  At that point, I texted him saying to hurry home because I thought this may be the real deal. Nothing like a little alcohol on the breath to ease the going into labor jitters!

Flash forward and it was the real deal....we arrived at the hospital around midnight.  My parents awoke and arrived around 2:30, post epidural :)  We had a hard time getting a hold of Lucas' parents (their phones were going straight to voicemail) but Bonnie was able to come shortly after her birth.  Jim has been sick so he was on antibiotics and had to wait to see our girl.  Skylar Rae was born at 5:12 am and let out the cry that was music to our ears! Her full head of dark hair surprised the doctor and nurses (and Lucas a little bit too, I think!) but it was no surprise to me! I had the same locks when I was born.  Later one nurse nonchalantly asked me if I had eaten eggplant parm...and I said, "Actually, I did!"  That is one food she swears sends ladies into labor--I had no idea :)

And here she is.....since Wednesday, we made it home, made it through our first night and first doctor's appointment, and 2 walks!  We've had some visitors (Noi, Rob, Jen, Ben, and Jo) and lots of grandparent time!!  Here are some highlights from our first week as a family.

A Sunday Snowshoe

We spent the day snowshoeing at Galena... The yurt loop and tilt-a-whirl! And we vowed to reserve a yurt for next winter!! Followed it up w a homemade veggie burger... Can't wait til I can hit the hot tub again! It was a perfect Sunday.

We also looked forward to the day when we can take Baby T snowshoeing in the baby carrier...and then skiing with her in the high-tech Burley on skis!!!

Waiting for Baby Thomas

We made it to March...

It is one week until my due date!! March 8th, a date that we have been reciting for the last 9 months and now it seems to be taking forever to get here (at least Lucas thinks so!). And while we are waiting for this little creature to arrive, here are some of the things that we have been up to...

Lucas has been growing a good luck baby beard...he will shave it in stages when our girl arrives.  This beard is the envy of many of our guy friends.
Soon to be Uncle Justen came to spend a long weekend with us!  Lucas and Justen enjoyed some nordic and alpine skiing and we all indulged in Galena's Full Moon Dinner!  He helped us get started on the baby's room with the tree decals. It is beneficial to have another tall guy on hand!

We continued working on the baby's room by finishing up the tree decals, putting together the crib (Lucas), and adding all sorts of baby stuff we never knew existed.  The diaper genie is ready, the clothes are washed, and the monitor is set up! And of course, I've been taking pregnant selfies :)

I had my SV Style Baby Shower hosted by Noi where we made onesies...she made this craft so simple that even I could do it!  Can't wait to see Baby Thomas sporting these!

While Lucas was skiing in Utah, I was 36 weeks pregnant and jumping in Hailey!  Noi was taking my picture :)

At 37 weeks, Kristen, Jen, Jo, Noi, Lili, and I (and pups Remi and Bell) got together for a Sunday snowshoe around Galena Lodge.  We followed it up by a yummy lunch and a few too many laughs.

And for now, we keep waiting until she decides she wants to join us!
